Troy Schafer is an American composer, performer and recording artist whose work is primarily engaged with sound as a material and the manipulation of sound sources in site-specific configurations to embrace the capacity for electrical speech. Schafer's understanding of sound as phonetic material realizes the human body as a self-actualizing text, resulting in a sustained ontological reflection on the role of the performer.

Schafer holds a B.M. in Music with an emphasis on Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and is currently pursuing an M.F.A. in Studio through the Department of Sound at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Schafer is a resident collaborator along with Nathaniel Ritter for Kinit Her and also Clay Ruby for Burial Hex.
